This week in art

These are the two digital paintings I created this week. Both are based on royalty-free photos from Pixabay.

This first one was created using iColorama, Metabrush, and Procreate.

This one is a still life that I layered with a crackle effect in iColorama.

Two new digital experiments this week.

First, I used some of my metallic textures to create stones.

This week I have been playing with portraits in iColorama. Starting with a photo from Pixabay, I created these two different portraits using different features of the app. I’m not sure which one I like best, but I do know I want to do more experimenting with portraits. I especially love working with texture.

This is the photo I started with.

In iColorama, I used these settings:
– Style / Lighten / 4
– Style / Painterly / VGogh1
– Adjust / ToneLab / 16

For the second one, I used these settings:
– Adjust / HDR / 4
– Texture / Noises
– Adjust / Exposure

These are two new digital mandalas. Original mandala line work done in iOrnament, then transformed in iColorama, and finally layered with colourful backgrounds in Procreate.

A new portrait this week, as well as two mandalas.

Similar to the portrait I did last week, this painting started with a photo from Pixabay, with textures and framing added in iColorama, finally blended with one of my colourful backgrounds in Procreate.

This week, I created some new digital paintings using iColorama as well as other apps.

This painting started with a photo from Pixabay, with texture added in iColorama, finally blended with one of my colourful backgrounds in Procreate.

Digital painting

If you remember last week’s post, I took some of the iOrnament mandalas I had processed with iColorama, and layered them with colour in Procreate.

In my digital art, I play with a variety of special effects apps, which are design to work on photos. But I wondered what they would do with line art, like mandala. Here is the original mandala created in iOrnament:

And here are a few examples, using iColorama, Super Photo, and Tangled FX apps.

I’ve been missing mandalas, so I worked on a couple of them this week.
The first two are the same mandala with different colours.

This week, I have been playing with an iPad app called MetaBrush. This app has many cool artistic features, but the one I am focusing on allows you to create great textures, following this tutorial by the wonderful Teresa Lunt.

Here are some of my first attempts at MetaBrush textures. The image on the left is the source image I used, and on the right is the texture I created. You can click on each image for a larger view.

The first three are based on textures from Pixabay, a royalty-free image site.

This one is based on one of my painted papers.

This one is based on a free image from the Hubble Telescope website.

Finally, for these two, I used photos of my bead embroidery.

Much more to come!
